Restaurant Impossible; Soul Food Junkies

The Food Network’s Restaurant Impossible visited Meglio’s restaurant in Bridgeton for a segment that originally ran in February, 2011. Here is the entire show:

On Saturday, we’ll talk to owner John Meglio about the impact the show has had on his restaurant. We’ll also talk about his original Luigi’s pizza which lives on at Meglio’s.

Also Saturday, we’ll talk to Byron Hurt about his new film Soul Food Junkies, which will be screened on Wednesday, January 16, 7:00 p.m. at Missouri History Museum in Lee Auditorium. There is no charge to attend. Soul Food Junkies is scheduled to air on KETC Nine Network’s Nine World channel (channel 84 on Charter for most of metro STL) on Wednesday, January 16 at 8:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m. and midnight.

The film is targeted to African-American audiences, but has a message for anybody who eats soul food, no matter your race. Below is a clip from the show:

This Weekend’s Show

On Saturday, November 17, we bring you another roundtable discussion show with guests sharing their thoughts and opinions about a variety of food and drink related topics.

 

 

Our panelists are Beckie Jacobs of Serendipity Ice Cream in Webster Groves, Marianne Moore of Dierberg’s School of Cooking in Des Peres and Michael Renner, restaurant reviewer for Sauce magazine.

We’ll talk about several Thanksgiving things, of course, as well as wine, beer, grits, Guy Fieri, fruitcake and waiting for a table at a restaurant.

Nick Malgieri on Saturday’s Show

He has a new book called “Bread,” subtitled “Plus Sweet and Savory Recipes Made From Bread.” We’ll talk about the book, its recipes and its “shout out” to a local bar.

We’ll also talk about his appearance next week at Cravings in Webster (Monday evening) and his experiences working with Julia Child.


 

Chili Festival Saturday!

This Saturday, October 20, Food Talk STL will broadcast from the Soulard Chili Festival at 1731 South Broadway, right across from Soulard Market. For more information and to purchase tickets to the event, click HERE.

Saturday’s guests on the show include Lisa Lillien from the Food Network’s “Hungry Girl.” She will discuss her new “Hungry Girl to the Max” cookbook and her upcoming appearance at Dierberg’s in Des Peres on 11/1/12. We will give away copies of Lisa’s book—listen for the signal to call.

Also, Dan Kopman of Schlafly Bottleworks will visit to discuss the upcoming Fall Food Frenzy fundraiser, set for 11/4/12, from the St. Louis Originals restaurant group.

Also, we’ll give away passes to the movie “Step Up to the Plate,” which opens on 10/26/12 at the Tivoli.

FOOD TALK STL show schedule

Food Talk STL will not be heard on Saturday, September 29, as KFNS will carry the Illinois-Penn State football game.

Our show will be on the air on October 6, 13 and 20 at 11:00 a.m. each of those Saturdays.

On October 6, guests will include George Mahe of St. Louis magazine, Chuck Dressel of Mt. Pleasant Winery and Caryn Dugan, a local vegan cook and consultant. We will give away several pairs of tickets to the Soulard Chili Cookoff, which is set for October 20.

On October 13, guests will include chef Carl Hazel of 1111 Mississippi and Beth Huch of St. Louis Culinary Tours.

On October 20, we will broadcast live from the Soulard Chili Cookoff. Guests will include Dan Kopman of Schlafly Bottleworks (and representing St. Louis Originals) and Lisa Lillien, author of Hungry Girl to the Max. Lisa will be appearing on Thursday, November 1, at the new Dierberg’s in Des Peres. (We will be giving away copies of her book during the show on 10/20.)

On October 27, the Illini start early, so no show.
